In our last update we had just started to see the flowers appear on our watermelon plants and were being treated to some hand pollination by our team in Burnley. There are now a total of five pollinated flowers, but of course this doesn’t guarantee us five watermelons – we’ll have to see if all of them have fertilised first.

Good news! The first watermelon fruit to have its flower hand pollinated (as shown in the week #6 watermelon update) seems to have started swelling up, which would suggest the hand pollination has worked. You can definitely see a difference in the size and it’s looking a little more watermelon-like now. The fruit has also dropped and is now growing downwards instead of upwards. We have our fingers (and toes!) crossed that the other four follow suit.

Growth-wise, the plants are looking really healthy now with plenty of leaves and vines spreading throughout the grow room. Don't they look brilliant? The BioTabs, Light-Mix and 15L AutoPot set-up has worked perfectly so far, and the plants are still only getting water and Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer at 1ml per litre as extra feed.

Don’t change something that isn’t working. Right? The 250w Sunmaster Metal Halide lamp, Adjust-A-Wings Enforcer Reflector and LUMii Black electronic ballast set-up is still doing the job perfectly as you can see from the brilliant growth we have, so again nothing has changed from last week.

Don't forget you can always pop into the Burnley Holland Hydroponics store if you want to see these plants in person. Maybe you're thinking about growing something different? Our team are always on hand to help with any enquiries you may have.

These updates will keep on coming, so make sure to check back next week to see how these little watermelons are growing! If you need something to remind you, subscribe to our mailing list and you’ll be one of the first to know when a post goes live.
