Watermelons @ Week 11 - Fruits Continue To Flourish
Look at all those lovely green leaves! The watermelon plants have well and truly taken over this grow tent, with vines spiralling everywhere and anywhere they can reach. They're still extremely thirsty plants, and the 50L flex tank is keeping them hydrated enough to keep supplying the fruits with everything they need.
To recap, we started these watermelon plants off from seed in BioBizz All-Mix and using BioTabs as an organic feed. Once big enough, they were transported into the AutoPot 15L 1 Pot system, and that’s where they have stayed and flourished. As for feed, thanks to the BioTabs they haven't needed any extra nutrients, so were just fed water from a flex tank.
After a number of weeks, Moonshine Nutrient Enhancer was added to help encourage better nutrient uptake and stimulate growth. Due of the natural ingredients in Moonshine, some residue build up was discovered in the pipes going from the flex tank into the AutoPots. This was simple to clean out though, and the tank has been raised a few inches to give a little more gravity pressure to the water flowing through. If using something a natural product like Moonshine, just keep on top of your pipes to check that everything is working fine and you'll have no problems![caption id="attachment_3265" align="aligncenter" width="600"] The tank has been raised to help with the flow[/caption]
At this stage now, we have added some BioTabs Orgatrex to the plants. This should be done as a hand feed only - never in the tank! Orgatrex is an organic growth accelerator, and will help to give your plants a little boost. We've got a quick video showing you how to mix it.
Watermelon Growth Updates
Our biggest (or the first 'born') watermelon is steadily growing, and is now bigger than the drinks can. It's still benefiting from the support of the ladies tights as the stretchy material is perfect for when you just need that extra little bit of room. No signs of any laddering just yet, so we’re all good on that front!
The second watermelon is catching up and has grown enough to be needing some support too. This one is sitting in its own personalised hammock, also made out of tights and hanging up with some string. This different support looks like it could be the better (and stronger!) alternative, although only time will tell as the watermelon develops. We don’t even want to know how many pairs of ladies tights the Burnley team are going through trying out these supports!
The third watermelon is slowly creeping up on the other two. Still only half the size of the can, it is definitely the baby of the group and isn’t quite big enough yet to worry about the stem breaking from weight. We're sure it'll catch up soon enough though.
As you can see, they’re all coming along just fine and it’s great to see the progress each update. Don’t forget, you can always pop into the Burnley store if you want to see these fruits for yourself! Our team are on hand to answer any questions you may have, whether it’s about this grow, BioTabs, AutoPot's or something else. And if you've grown watermelons yourself hydroponically, we’d love to hear your experiences and even take on any tips you might have, after all every day is a school day in hydroponics![caption id="attachment_3262" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Watermelon #1 in it's support[/caption] [caption id="attachment_3263" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Watermelon #2 in a hammock style support[/caption] [caption id="attachment_3264" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Watermelon #3 at half of the size of a can[/caption] [product sku="Moonshine-Nutrient-Enhancer"] [product sku="AutoPot-Complete"] [product sku="BIO2020"] [product sku="FMC3931"] [product sku="LUM6741"] [product sku="Enforcer-Reflector"] [product sku="Sunmaster-Metal-Halide"]
