    In our last update we had just started to see the flowers appear on our watermelon plants and were being treated to some hand pollination by our team in Burnley. There are now a total of five pollinated flowers, but of course this doesn’t guarantee us five watermelons – we’ll have to see if all of them have fertilised first

    Our watermelon plants are now at week 6 of growth, and the first fruit has appeared. Did you know that watermelon plants grow both female and male flowers? The female flower carries the fruit, and the male flower the pollen. So yes, this means pollination time! Most plants would rely on either wind or insects to pollinate their flowers
