Propagation Lights & CFL's

Propagation Lights & CFL's

When rooting out clones or geminating seeds, High Intensity Lighting (HID) can be just that, too intense for young and fragile seedlings, causing them stress which can negatively affect growth. A better option at these early stages is to use a dedicated propagation light.

Propagation lights are available in various forms and spectrums, from single T5 tube fittings, which can be used on their own, or multiple T5 tubes combined in a reflective canopy for greater light coverage. The 2nd option is Compact Florescent Lamps (CFL), these use similar tubes to the T5’s, except they are coiled into a compact form for a more intense light. CFL’s can be used smaller spaces and with just a simple lamp hanger or a highly polished CFL reflector.

The advantages of using a T5 or CFL is that no ballast is needed, just plug them straight into the mains. They are also more cost effective, compared to HID grow lamps, with cheaper running costs and can be placed a lot closer to the plants, without burning or causing heat stress. We don’t however recommend them for late vegetative growth and flowering as they simply don’t have the intensity to penetrate the canopy to produce bountiful fruits and flowers.
