Starter Kits Starter Kits
Holland Hydroponics' starter kits are everything you require for successful hydroponic gardening.

As all grow rooms are different we have not included ventilation, although we must stress it is highly important to have a good airflow in your grow room, Please feel free to browse through our Environment section

Lighting Lighting
Light is one of the most important factors when considering growing plants, indoors or out. The most common mistake made by the indoor grower is to provide inadequate light, a smaller area with adequate light will give much better results than a larger area with inadequate light. Different types of light available are fluorescent/mercuries which are suitable for seedlings, cuttings (clones) and side-lighting. Metal Halides are best for plant growth while High Pressure Sodiums are best for fruiting and flowering
Cloning & Propagation Cloning & Propagation
Plants can be started from seeds or clones (cuttings). There are a few different methods of propagation, our guidelines are general. We suggest that you use Rockwool starter cubes which can then be planted on into hydroponic systems, soil or coco.
Mediums Mediums
The growing media recommended for soilless gardening is inert and contains no nutrients. It also helps to support the roots of the plant. The plant is then fed a special nutirent mix dependant on the type of media used, different mediums include clay pebbles, rockwool, perlite and vermiculite. There are also a number of natural media available which include soil or coco
Systems Systems
There are two ways of delivering nutrient solution to plants in hydroponic systems:

1) Active Hydroponics - The nutrient solution is delivered to the plant with the aid of a pump. There are four main types of active hydroponic systems, NFT Ebb & Flood, Drip Irrigation and Aeroponics.

2) Passive hydroponics - This is the cheapest and simplest method of hydroponic gardening. It is ideal for beginners with very little outlay. This method works by capiliary action. A plant pot is filled with a growth medium i.e. perlite, then a saucer is placed underneath the pot which is then filled with nutrient solution.

Nutrients Nutrients
As inert growing media is used to grow plants hydroponically, all hydroponic nutrients must be complete containing all necessary elements for plant growth. There is a range of chemical, biological and organic on the market, most leading hydroponic nutrient companies also make nutrients for soil and coco.
Growth Enhancement Promoters Growth Enhancement Promoters
Important co factors for plant performance are usually missing from soil as well as hydroponic solutions. Mineral nutrition is only part of what a plant needs to reach it's full genetic potential. Growth enhancers can be used to maximise nutrient uptake and increase photosynthetic response. They can help to achieve full potential at every stage of growth.
PH/CF Management PH/CF Management
These are the most important factors when maintaining a nutrient solution. pH is a measurement of how acid or alkaline a nutrient solution is. pH is measured from 0-14, (0-7 being acid) (7-14 being alkaline) 7 being expressed as neutral. The ideal pH for most hydroponic solutions is between 5.8 - 6.2 (rockwool being slightly less 5.5)

Conductivity is a measurement of the strength of a nutrient solution (dissolved salts).

Disease & Pest Control Disease & Pest Control
Pest and disease can affect any indoor or outdoor garden, pests can be introduced to the growing area on clothes, through fans, vents etc. Disease can arise from many different environmental factors. There are numerous very effective chemical, biological, organic preventatives and cures.
